Public meeting Oct. 6 for Loop 202 Santan widening project in Chandler

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation invites the public to a virtual meeting Tuesday, Oct. 6, to share plans for a project that will widen Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) between Interstate 10 and Loop 101 (Price Freeway).

The virtual meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with a presentation, followed by the opportunity for the public to ask questions of the ADOT project team and provide comments. To register and attend the meeting visit the project webpage.

The project will address existing and projected traffic congestion on Loop 202. Project elements include:

  • Widening the existing freeway by one general purpose lane in each direction
  • Widening the on- and off-ramps at Kyrene Road and McClintock Drive to accommodate new lanes
  • Widening two eastbound Loop 202 bridges over 56th Street and Union Pacific Railroad
  • Constructing retaining walls

The project is in the design phase, with final plans anticipated in Spring 2027. Construction is tentatively expected to begin in late 2027. For more information about the project, please visit: azdot.gov/L202-I10-L101.

The project is funded through Proposition 479, a dedicated half-cent sales tax for transportation approved by Maricopa County voters in 2024.
