Phoenix Recruiting Battalion honors Tucson business for mobile recruiting vision
The award acknowledges Digital Printz’s work installing branded vehicle wraps on Army pickup trucks used by recruiters throughout the region. What began as Lt. Col. Brandon Staub’s idea to put the Army message on the move has become a practical, reusable asset for outreach — from school visits and community events to everyday travel across Tucson and beyond.
“Instead of relying only on a stationary sign or a single event display, these trucks carry the Army’s presence wherever recruiters go,” said Staub, the commander of the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion. The wrapped vehicles give recruiting teams an immediately recognizable, professional platform when they arrive at high schools, career fairs, athletic events and local community gatherings.
Digital Printz owner Vincent Colmenares said working with dedicated organizations makes a difference.
“For the most part, the clients that I've dealt with are super passionate, and I think that's the reason why they ended up choosing me, because they've seen the work,” Colmenares said.
The mobile billboard concept reflects a simple goal to make Army recruiting more visible in the places where potential applicants, families and community partners already are.
Digital Printz turned that idea into an on-the-road brand experience by wrapping Army pickup trucks with bold graphics and messaging. The vehicles are more than transportation. They serve as rolling points of contact, helping create awareness before a recruiter even steps out to speak with students or parents.
“Being in retail, customer service is very important,” Colmenares added. “You have to try to do your best.”
For recruiters, that visibility can be especially valuable during school visits. A branded truck parked outside a campus can signal that an Army representative is on site, reinforce the professional appearance of the recruiting team and make it easier for students to find the event or start a conversation.
The vehicle wraps also give the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion a durable marketing asset that can support recruiting work across multiple settings.
Unlike a flyer, banner or one-time advertisement, the trucks can be deployed repeatedly and adapted to the battalion’s operational needs. They can travel to schools, community events, partner meetings and recruiting stations while consistently displaying the Army brand.
That consistency matters. A recognizable vehicle helps the battalion present a unified image across its recruiting footprint and gives recruiters another tool to connect the Army’s message with personal, face-to-face engagement.
The trucks can also help generate organic interest. People may see them in traffic, in parking lots or at events before ever encountering a recruiter directly. That exposure creates a natural opening for questions about Army careers, education benefits, training, service opportunities and the path to enlistment.
By honoring Digital Printz, the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion highlighted the value of local business partnerships in supporting the recruiting mission.
The Tucson company’s work demonstrates how a local vendor can help military organizations communicate more effectively with the communities they serve. The finished vehicles provide the battalion with a visible symbol of its presence and an effective platform for engaging the next generation of Soldiers.
For the Phoenix Recruiting Battalion, the wrapped pickup trucks represent more than a new look. They reflect Staub's vision of taking the Army’s story directly into the community — one school visit, one event and one conversation at a time.
