Deputies Track Down Arizona Fugitive Wanted on Sexual Assault Charges
Spokane Valley Deputies working to locate a suspected fugitive from Arizona, wanted on sex crime charges, located, positively identified, and arrested the wanted suspect. He was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail as a Fugitive from Justice.
On September 27, 2026, at approximately 1:15 pm, Spokane Valley Deputies were in the area of Evergreen Road and E. 16th Avenue attempting to locate a wanted fugitive, 51-year-old John T. Newby. Newby was wanted on a fully nationwide, extraditable Arizona warrant for Sexual Assault charges.
As their efforts continued, they learned Newby had a possible address in the 12200 block of E. 4th Avenue and that he was possibly driving a blue Pontiac sedan with Washington license plates.
At this time, neither Newby nor his vehicle was located.
At approximately 6:20 pm, a Deputy rechecked the address on E. 4th Avenue, but he did not locate Newby or his vehicle.
At approximately 7:35 pm, the Deputy received additional information and checked the area again. This time, Newby’s blue Pontiac was parked at the location. While waiting for additional Deputies to arrive, he observed a male leave a residence. He visually identified the male as Newby and, with assistance of an arriving Deputy, contacted and detained Newby without incident.
When Newby was informed of the felony sex crimes warrant, he did not have much of a reaction. Deputies advised him of his rights, and he declined to make a statement or answer questions.
They confirmed Newby’s identity and that the warrant was still active and extraditable from Spokane County.
Newby was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail on a Fugitive from Justice charge pending extradition to Arizona.
